Cyanotype is often described as a photographic process, but that description only gets us part of the way there. At its core, cyanotype is a chemical reaction shaped by light, time, and restraint. During exposure, something irreversible happens at the molecular level, quietly and without spectacle, and the image begins long before anything visible appears on the paper. Understanding what happens chemically during exposure does not require a background in chemistry. It does re
